Dash For Destinie II
Tuesday, August 13, 2013, Race starts at 7:00 PM
Hamlin Town Hall 1658 Lake Road, Hamlin, NY 14464
The Cause: Dash for Destinie is a 5k Walk/Run that has been created in honor of a young girl, Destinie Quick, who lost her battle with Cystic Fibrosis in January 2012. Destinie attended Genesee Valley Rotary Camp each year in Pike, NY. GVRC runs for one week each summer at Camp Sam Wood in Pike, New York. This free camp allows children with disabilities a safe, outdoor camping experience. Each year there is a different theme that activities are centered around.
One year the theme was Pirates. This happened to be the same year that three counselors decided to run from Hamlin to Pike, south on Route 19, a 63 mile journey, as a way to raise money and awareness for Camp. The counselors called this “Run for the Booty.” Booty has two meanings for camp. Booty meaning the most amazing prize, at the Genesee Valley Rotary Camp, campers have the time of their lives that they talk about for an entire year leading up to the next year’s camp. Another meaning for “Booty” was to raise money for this remarkable place.
